WHAT IS ACNE?

Acne vulgaris is one of the world's most common skin conditions and results from obstruction, bacterial colonization and inflammation of the sebaceous follicles. The main cause of acne stems from an abnormal amount of bacteria, mainly propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes), resulting in inflammatory acne.

Acne affects between 85-100% of adolescents by the age of 24 years and has been shown to affect up to 50% of adults over 25 years. It usually appears on the face, chest, back and limbs, and can produce life-long scars, physically and emotionally.

WHAT IS OMNILUX BLUE?

Omnilux Blue is a pain-free, non-invasive treatment for moderate inflammatory acne (pimples) in all age groups. It has now been cleared by the FDA and Health Canada. Omnilux Blue uses innovative Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT) technology. This uses light to effectively target acne-causing bacteria without thermally affecting surrounding tissues.

HOW DOES OMNILUX BLUE WORK?

Omnilux Blue uses a panel of over 1,700 focused diodes to insure proper power density over a uniform beam profile. It delivers a unique 408 nm wavelength blue light that closely matches the peak absorption qualities of the targeted P acne bacteria. This blue light creates a highly toxic environment for the superficial P acne bacteria, which induces bacterial death and clears the skin from acne.

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS DURING THE TREATMENT? IS IT PAINFUL?

A typical Omnilux Blue treatment session takes only 20 minutes. You can relax comfortably on a bed or chair during light application. Protective eyewear will be provided. There may be a slight warm sensation during treatment. Omnilux Blue treatment is easy, painless and safe.

In June 2003, FDA cleared Omnilux Blue as a safe and efficacious therapy for acne. Health Canada approved the process in November 2004. Omnilux Blue treatment has no known side effects.
