The Cutera CoolGuide laser treatment is a safe, fast, and effective method for removal of unwanted blood vessels. It works best primarily for vessels from one to three millimeters in diameter. It is the ideal treatment for "spider veins," broken capillaries due to sun damage, unwanted veins on the face and the legs. Unlike sclerotherapy which requires injections into the veins, laser therapy is non-invasive, easily tolerated and often requires only one treatment session.
The Cutera CoolGuide vascular laser emits a long wavelength light energy pulse, which is absorbed by the blood pigment of the targeted vessel. The destroyed blood vessels are simply reabsorbed by the body. The cooling head of the laser is applied immediately before and after the laser pulse thereby minimizing discomfort.
Any person who cares about their appearance and is restricting their activities because of unsightly blood vessels can be helped. All skin colours can be treated, but tanning should be avoided before and after treatment. Treatment over tattoos is avoided as it could cause fading.
Usually there is some short term reddening over the skin in the treated area. Very rarely, blistering can occur. Sometimes there is a temporary increase or decrease in skin pigmentation. Occasionally bruising may happen with the treatment of larger vessels. This usually resolves within a few weeks.
No treatment can guarantee 100% removal of veins and vessels. What can be achieved with the Cutera CoolGuide laser is a 70% to 90% long term reduction in the numbers of unwanted vessels of at least two years duration and often much longer.
Please call the Peterborough Laser Clinic or e-mail us if you have questions about laser removal of unwanted blood vessels, or to arrange a prompt, confidential laser consultation and treatment. No referral is needed for non-OHIP consultations and treatments.
